Spark a Culture of Innovation
Arvin A. Brown Public Library is one of 14 libraries throughout the state of Vermont to receive the “Spark a Culture of Innovation” Grant. This grant is a collaboration among the Vermont Community Foundation, Vermont libraries, Vermont Makers, a
community group of creative scientists, artists and technologists who share their
passion for making things through public programming, and UVM’s College of
Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.
Libraries will programs – curriculum, facilitators, and equipment. We have chosen 2 innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) programs – Squishy Circuits and Creative Creatures.
Each program is limited to 20 participants. You can sign up for a spot at the library. Adult helpers welcome!
Squishy Circuits
July 11 9:30 AM
at Richford Summer Day Camp
Build playful and colorful sculptures using conductive and insulating play dough. Using jumbo LEDs and batteries we’ll build parallel and series circuits and then use these patterns to build unique sculptures that light up! This engaging activity allows for all the fun of the play dough you are used to. Learning about circuits has never been so hands-on and accessible to young kids. That said, we know plenty of adults who love playing with Squishy Circuits as much as the youngsters.
Creative Creatures
August 5 9:30 AM
at Richford Summer Day Camp
Creating creatures from repurposed plastic packaging & circuits, light them up with solar cells and LEDs, putting our new knowledge of electrical power to work. The glowing creatures then become characters in stories of our own invention with journeys, conflicts and resolutions.
