Bugworks!

bugworksHow clean is the Missisquoi? Youngsters at the Richford Summer Day Camp will soon be able to answer that question by attending a “Bugworks” program provided by the Arvin A. Brown Library on Wednesday, July 1, and Friday, July 3, with a generous grant from the Missisquoi River Basin Association. The July 1st program is for 4-6 graders, and the July 3rd program is for K-3. Parents are welcome to stay and participate with their child.

“Bugworks,” which is taught by  nature guy, Kurt Valenta (Mr. K.), shows children that the health of a stream’s ecosystem can be determined by discovering which invertebrates live in its water. Some “bugs” can live in any old muck, some require clean pure water, and others can live in the in-between.  Children will learn how to find and identify various invertebrates living in the Missisquoi and from these results will be able to estimate the general health of the Missisquoi River.
