If you are interested in watching or attracting butterflies, be sure to keep the date Thursday June 18th open to attend our program “45 Varieties of Butterflies in Your Backyard” hosted by Patricia Lambert at the RICHFORD TOWN HALL. Patty is one of our library trustees who has a real passion for the outdoors and would like to share her knowledge of butterflies with you. This program will open with a very short slideshow of butterflies in the garden.
Patty will share tips and techniques for observing butterflies, especially shy ones. She will also talk about the challenges of photographing butterflies and offer suggestions on how you can take your own photos. She will cover the different types of identification guides and which type is best. She will also talk about how to attract butterflies to your yard by planting varieties they like to feed on and by creating and conserving the wild habitat that they need to survive.
We will have handouts listing websites with more butterfly information and lists of the plants they like. Plants and photo notecards will be available for purchase.
There will be refreshments and a door prize – some lucky person will go home with a butterfly identification guide! Everyone interested in knowing more about these beautiful insects is welcomed to attend, including families with school age children.
After learning about our local varieties of butterflies you may find yourself enjoying more time outside to hunt down a new species to add to your life list and a commitment to preserving the habitat of these colorful little creatures.
