Fall Fundraising
Recently the Arvin A. Brown Public Library sent out it’s third annual fundraising appeal letter and I’d like to thank all of our generous supporters who responded. Our goal for this campaign was to raise $4,400 and we are almost there with 78% of our goal.
Maple Mountain Woodworks of Richford will make a matching donation of $2,000. We are grateful to all the residents of Richford and our patrons from the surrounding area for their support of all we do at the library. There are many FREE activities available at the library including borrowing books, DVDs, and magazines for all ages, downloadable audio and eBooks, after school programs, computer access and wi-fi, story hour, summer camp programs, Vermont Online Database, Universal Classes and guest speakers throughout the year.
Last year we were level funded by the Select Board, however our operating costs, just like everyone else’s, have continued to rise. We have been struggling to find ways to reduce our expenditures as costs rise, without cutting the quality of service you have come to expect from us. Next month we will be asking the Select Board for a $5,000 increase in our appropriation for 2012. This would mean a cost increase for the taxpayers of Richford which would work out to be about $2 per $100,000 in property value. Please let the Select Board know if you support this increase for the library. This year we expect our fundraising will account for 15% of our total income and that is why every donation is important to us.
If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet, it’s not too late to help us reach our goal. Donations forms are available at the library and here on our website. Thank you again and don’t forget we are a PUBLIC library and you are the public – if you have a request for a book or program, let us know and we will do our best to provide that for you.
